Welcome to Project Timothy Uganda

Supporting Pastor Training in Uganda from the UK.

Project Timothy Uganda

Since 2002, a group of British pastors has been visiting Uganda to train church leaders. The team, known as Project Timothy Uganda and led by Pastor Gerald Tanner, has held Teach the Bible conferences in Masaka, Kampala, Mbale, Kabale, Gulu, Lira. Kasese and Soroti. For these conferences Project Timothy Uganda has partnered with PAG Uganda, the Church of Uganda, Veritas College and others. Since 2017 Project Timothy Uganda has worked together with Pastor Training International. The conferences are open to church leaders and key workers who are teaching or preaching the Word of God. This ministry is founded on the biblical principle in 2 Timothy 2:2:

And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.

Gerald’s first overseas trip as a pastor trainer was in 2001. On that occasion he went with Pastor Trevor Archer, who set up Project Timothy. At the time Gerald was the Pastor of an Evangelical Church in Lapworth, Warwickshire, UK. He had been the pastor there since 1991. Previously he had been a secondary level science teacher.

In 2003, through a friend, Gerald received an invitation from the Bishop of West Buganda Diocese to go to Uganda to provide a pastor training conference for the clergy of that region. Gerald has returned to Uganda every year since then, teaching pastors at conferences in various parts of the country. Other pastors from the UK have accompanied Gerald on most of these visits.

In 2013 Project Timothy Uganda was established to consolidate the work and to encourage and support a small team of Ugandan pastors to spearhead the work. Two members of this team, Emmanuel Magambo and Emmanuel Okwalinga, were appointed to serve as pastor trainers.

In 2014 Gerald became the Associate Pastor of Wycliffe Church in Sheffield, UK. However, the pastor training ministry continued.

In 2016 Project Timothy Uganda partnered with Pastor Training International (PTI) and Gerald joined its Ministry Board.

In 2017 Gerald lead the first conferences in Uganda using the PTI training curriculum. Pastor Simeon Woodcraft, New Milton Evangelical Church, near Southampton, who was serving as a PTI trainer for the first time, accompanied him.
